Join Rowan, the founder of Sensational Africa on this tour to some of the best destinations, safari camps and hotels on the African continent. We thrive on taking our guests to our favourite places in Africa. With tours at differing times of the year, each tour showcases Africa in different seasons but still offers incredible highlights along the way. For us, the luxury is not only in the accomodation, but in the experience itself and my focus on this tour is to ensure our guests receive nothing short of an authentic African wildlife experience.
This Luxury African Safari starts in Hwange National Park. Hwange is Zimbabwe’s largest National Park at over 14,000 km². Known for its large elephant population and open plains and predators, Hwange is one of Africa’s best wilderness areas. After after clearing customs at Victoria Falls international Airport we take a 40 minute light aircraft flight to Hwange National Park. Once on terra-firma we take a game drive towards Little Makalolo Camp, our little piece of paradise for the next 3 nights. Situated in a wildlife rich concession in the South Eastern part of Hwange National Park, Little Makalolo produces big experiences. The camp is small and intimate with only 6 rooms and overlooks a productive waterhole. The concession is well-renowned for its elephant, buffalo, predators and birdlife. There is a whole range of activities we will experience here, day and night game drives, a log-pile hide, guided walks and some cultural tours. There is also an exclusive star-bed available if availability and weather permits, this is our absolute favourite way to sleep at night. This area is remote and scenic and it offers us a perfect start to our Luxury African Safari.
From Hwange we fly back to one of the seven wonders of the world, the mighty Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Our second accomodation for 3 nights is Old Drift Lodge. There is nothing old about Old Drift but it gets its name from its location. The Lodge is situated on the original crossing site where ox wagons crossed the Zambezi River trying to make their way north into Zambia. Old Drift is number one on trip advisor for a reason, with large, well appointed luxury tented suites right on the banks of the Zambezi River. The Guides are fantastic and one is met with the warm hospitality that Zimbabwe is famous for. One gets absorbed into Africa by the ambience of the Zambezi National Park behind and the Zambezi River in front. With a guided tour of the Victoria Falls, lunch at the beautiful Lookout Cafe, game drives, walking safaris and morning and afternoon sunset cruises on the river your heart will already be lost to Africa. It is also a great time to view the Victoria Falls as there is a considerable amount of water flowing over the Falls. And, we still have the Okavango Delta to come!
Once we have enjoyed all that Victoria Falls has to offer we venture west to the iconic Okavango Delta in Botswana. Transfer is via light aircraft to Kasane where we clear immigration, and then we set off for Tubu Tree on Hunda Island in the Jao Concession. Jao means flood plain in Setswana the local language. In November the flood has generally subsided so water activities can be hit and miss. However the game on the grass rich flood pains provides a great food source for plains game, thus bringing in the predators. Tubu Tree gets its name from its design, raised up into the trees overlooking the flood plain. Elevated walkways in the trees add to the enjoyment of this paradise in the Okavango Delta. A great selection of activities gets us out and about, day and night drives, boating and Mekoro (if water levels permit) and guided walks. Tubu Tree also features a sleep out start bed, and if weather permits I highly recommend immersing yourself into Africa!
Next stop is Qorokwe. Qorokwe means “the place where buffalo broke through the water into the bush”. This area of the delta is big game country and has exceptional scenery. During our 3 night stay we will venture to the Gomoti Plains, a wildlife rich area that borders the Moremi Game Reserve. Open plains along the river means a rich oasis that game flocks to for the green grass and supply of water. The pictures of Qorokwe speak for themselves, this is a luxury camp and a great way to finish what will be an unforgettable African Safari Holiday. This camps also features a pool for those that want to take it easy and enjoy some down time before either heading home or off to their next destination which can be Tailormade for you by Sensational Africa.
