Sabi Sands and Kruger National Park

Kruger National Park and its numerous surrounding Private Game Reserves offers some of the best game viewing in Southern Africa. Most notably is the Sabi Sands Game Reserve. It is South Africas most famous national park and is known by people all over the world. This region has something to offer every budget from award winning luxurious lodges to tented camps.

The park is not to be confused with the private game reserves, as they offer completely different experiences. The Kruger National Park itself is perfect for self-drive tourists who are able to traverse the park in their own vehicles on the well mapped tarmac road network. The Private Game Reserves adjacent to the Kruger National park offer a far more personalised experience and are exclusive for guests only. This wildlife rich area collectively known as the Kruger area has phenomenal wildlife with a large population of big cats that are often seen on both day and night drives. There is a couple airports servicing the Kruger region with the Skukuza Airport being the gateway to the Sabi Sands.

Time of Year to Travel

As with most of Southern Africa’s wildlife zones the winter dry season between May and October produces the best game viewing. This is due to a scarcity of water and animals moving to and from water sources daily, the bush is thinner and drier allowing game viewing to be much easier than in the green season. The rains start in November going through till March with late afternoon thunderstorms, transforming the region into a lush green eden and many animals drop their young during this time of plenty. This is prime time for bird watching in the Park, and whilst the wildlife is still around it is harder to see as the bush is thick and water is more readily available at the seasonal water holes deep into the forest areas. The green season combines well with Cape Town or other beach destinations.

Activites

We prefer our guests to stay within one of the Private Game Reserves adjacent to the park. Private Reserves can offer more activities than those in the national park such as game drives, guided walking safaris, and night drives. They are not open to the public which offers a more personalised experience.
