Sensational Africa Accompanied Tour 05 – 19 February 2022

ABOUT THIS ITINERARY:

Join Rowan, the founder of Sensational Africa on this tour to some of the best destinations, safari camps and hotels on the African continent.  We thrive on taking our guests to our favourite places in Africa.  With tours at differing times of the year, each tour showcases Africa in different seasons but still offers the same highlights along the way.  For us, the luxury is not only in the accomodation, but in the experience itself and my focus on this tour is to ensure our guests receive nothing short of an authentic African wildlife experience.

Our tour starts in the incredible wildlife destination of Botswana.  This country offers so much diversity it is a travellers dream come true.  I have hand-picked some of my favourite lodges which offer great guides and fantastic wildlife opportunities and diversity in landscapes and wildlife.  These camps are smaller in size which makes them feel exclusive and intimate.  After a short flight from Maun Airport we head off to Kalahari Plains Camp, which is located in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve within a private concession.  The luxury of space is first and foremost at this camp, something we strive for.  Although the Kalahari is in a semi-desert environment it boasts phenomenal wildlife and birdlife, the diversity is simply incredible and it is home to some of Botswana’s unique desert dwellers.  February is the Green Season in the Kalahari, so wild flowers bloom, animals are dropping their young and animals come from far and wide to the Kalahari to feed on the rich green grasses.  Without giving to much away, I can firmly state that Kalahari Plains is one of my favourite camps in one of my favourite African Safari destinations.  There is a number of fantastic activities on site, the San Bushmen Experience is exceptional and one has the opportunity to do guided walks.  With spacious rooms and the opportunity to sleep in the star beds upstairs and soak up Africa, we are sure you will love this camp as much as we do.Read More

From here we take a short flight to the Southern part of the Okavango Delta to Chitabe Lediba Camp.  With only 5 rooms, set over a small flood plain, this camp is ideal in so many ways.  This region of the Okavango Delta has less water than other parts but floodplains to fill when the flood is on.  There are no mokoro rides but one can do day and night game drives, guided walks and bird watching.  On one of the days we do a day trip to the scenic Gomoti Plains , a wildlife rich area with stunning views out into the Moremi Game Reserve.  There is a lovely pool in camp to sit and watch game from camp.  Once we are finalised we take a short flight to Kasane where we clear customs and then another short flight to Livingstone in Victoria Falls, Zambia to go lay our eyes on one of the Natural Wonders of the World.

Locally as Mosi oa-tunya “the Smoke that Thunders”, February is a great time to view the Falls.  Peaking in May there is substantial water in February, almost just the right amount to view the entire Falls without a drenching (you will still feel the mist of the Zambezi upon you).  We think anytime is a great time to view the Victoria Falls and whatever the time of year, you still left in awe at this amazing Natural Wonder of the World.  The camp of choice Toka-Leya Camp in Zambia is where you will stay the next 2 nights.  Situated on the banks of the Zambezi River, you will drift off to sleep at night to the sounds of one of Africa’s oldest rivers.  Enjoy the serene setting and all the activities on offer including a guided tour of the Falls on the Zambian side, a tour of the Livingstone museum, a Rhino tracking experience (nominal fee), river cruises, cultural experiences and more.  We have also arranged to depart from the Zimbabwean side so we can enjoy a guided tour of the Falls on the Zimbabwean side, which boasts the Rainforest and a 1.1km stroll to various lookout points.  This is a good opportunity to see two small African town’s, the town of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, and the town of Livingstone in Zambia.  From here you head to Victoria Falls Airport in Zimbabwe and depart to Cape Town.

This is where Rowan says good bye and leaves you to enjoy some quality time with your significant other and your groups of close friends.  You will still be in the capable hands of a Private Guide in Cape Town for all of your transfers as well as for 3 privately guided tours of the Cape region.  I have hand-picked these fantastic Journeys as they are as fun as they are informative, bringing out the best of the region.  Visit the Cape Peninsula, do a City and Culture tour, and for a whole day your guide is at your disposal to take you where ever you want to go based on your interests.  Our approved guide’s knowledge of the area is second to none and they will recommend things to do based on your interests and preferences for your free day.   Your guide will first meet you at Cape Town International airport and transfer you to your accomodation.  During your transfer your guide will outline your activity and transfer programme for the next 7 days.

Going from the serene Okavango Delta to Cape Town is quite the change, but the transition is made much easier when your next stop is Steenberg Estates.  The areas oldest wine farm having been established in 1682, Steenberg is a haven of tranquility.  We have so much planned for your 2 night stay here.  For the Golfers there is 18 holes on Steenberg’s private golf club and for the non-golfers enjoy a voucher to the spa, a heavenly experience.  Enjoy dinner at the acclaimed Tryn restaurant or Bistro 1682 with a voucher from us.  Try the local wines and enjoy the local Constantia area.  On departure day your guide will collect you and take you on a tour of the Cape Peninsula and show you some of the region best natural areas, Cape Point and the Boulder African Penguin colony.  Your will enjoy a light lunch and at the end of the day you will arrive at the One & Only Cape town for your next 2 night stay.

The One & Only is located in the heart of the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, the hub of Cape Town.  Boasting the largest rooms in Cape Town and with views of the magnificent Table Mountain you will be able to explore the vibrant waterfront, its restaurants, activities and world class shopping facilities.  This is your chance to soak up downtown Cape Town and partake in any activities you wish such as Robben Island or paragliding over the beaches.  After 2 luxurious nights here doing as you wish your guide will collect you and take you on a City and Culture Tour.  This will give you a further glimpse into the history and culture of this incredible city.  There are so many little surprises on this tour, you will fall in love with the city and its people.

Your next stop is Leeu House in the French Huguenot inspired town of Frranschoek, set in the winelands surrounded by mountains.  This is the perfect way to end your African safari holiday.  Enjoy a complementary wine tasting at Leeu Estates, or partake in one of the many activities on offer such as the Wine Tram which leads you through numerous wine estates, each boasting award winning wines and tastings and pairings..  You also have your private guide on stand by to take you wherever you want to go.  For the golfers we can arrange another day of golf at Erinvale which was designed by the Bear Jack Nicklaus which is one of South Africa’s best courses.  After 2 nights at Leeu House it is time to say goodbye and your guide will transfer you back to Cape Town International Airport.  For those wishing to extend you tour, we can tailor another exciting add-on for you.

Sensational Africa have done us proud. They recommended and then organised everything from our flights to baggage storage at Maun; an amazing safari experience deep in the Kalahari in Botswana at a Ker and Downey camp (Dinaka). Whilst there it rained and we witnessed the desert flora and fauna coming to life. From flowers that appear for just a few days a year, to migrating birds on a stopover, bullfrogs feasting on nuptial termites, and frolicking baby wildebeest and impala. Our trip was a delight, made even more special by the exceptional hospitality, comfort and safari guiding provided by Dinaka Camp. We thank Sensational Africa for their outstanding organisation taking into account our personal preferences and wishes. Margie and Alan.

Thank you Rowan and team for organising our incredible trip to Africa. It was even more amazing than we’d hoped. The people, places and scenery really do have to be seen to be believed. Your knowledge of the local areas in Zimbabwe and Botswana helped to create a unique and tailored family experience!! And yes…that lion was about 2m away from our vehicle!!! 😬
